The Problem of being Married in Ministry
What takes priority, your marriage, or your ministry? How do you juggle them? What do you have to do as a couple to navigate through it?
One of the breakout sessions on the Love Like You Mean It cruise was called How To Be Married in Ministry (and Not Wind Up Hating Both). Ed and Amy were funny, and I could have sat listening longer about the struggles.
For example, there was a time they went to a marriage conference to speak and had their kids with them. Except, one of them was always having to take a kid to be disciplined in the middle of it. They listed some challenges of being married in ministry.
Hard to be yourself w/ others while in ministry.
Perception management. A big issue with preacher kids (PKs).
It’s hard to disconnect. Where does ministry stop and life begin? Casey and I “talk shop” after we’ve done ministry work, and those times pop up outside of the church. It’s a difficult privilege.
